We all like video games. We may even love them. You may find me sitting in a hunched over position some weekend playing 14 hours of TimeSplitters with friends. It’s the kind of video game experience that makes you feel drunk when you go outside. “Get that damn light out of my face,” we yell, but the sun won’t listen. Our thumbs and backs hurt like crazy. We know the reason. We just sat on our asses for 14 hours and played video games. Of course they hurt. We gingerly nurse our wounds over the next couple of days. We play trace amounts of GBA like an accident victim learning to walk again. Eventually we get better. We are ready to resume our life of moderate video game playing. Then there is little Jordan “My Thumbs Get a Little Sore” Maxwell from Canada. I see playing video games got him a little article in Canada. That’s neat. Where do you get the time to play 7 hours of video games a day, Jordan? Maybe the children of Canada don’t go to school. I mean, all their mothers are mounties after all. It’s a good thing his mother left that gentle bear to look after little Jordan. But the bear needs to discipline little Jordan. “No,” the charming bear would state. “No, you may not play video games for 7 hours. You have school work to do and honey to feed me.” But this bear is not charming. Mores the pity. What’s that? Mommy isn’t a mountie? She’s a physiotherapist? Why the hell is she letting you play so many video games? She should know better! It’s her profession! Is poor Jordan a little experiment for Mommy? Is mommy trying to get a grant? Something smells funny in the upper regions of North America. Let us all pray that Canada has some form of social services. Filed under: A 47 Danger and General and Rant Comments: 1 Comment |

It has been a few months since I had finished Resident Evil 4. I am in the midst of replaying it and I have forgotten how much I loved the game. I knew I liked it, but the feelings are a bit more stronger than “like.” I luuurrrve it! It is hands down one of my favorite games ever. There is so much variety in the game play. Whether it be from the numerous weapons and ways to utilize them, or the many adversaries Mr. Kennedy (Leon Kennedy was also in RE2) encounters- which range from, vaguely European, dirty, zombie villagers, to the cave troll from LOTR (it looks like one), to the ‘regenerators’ super creepy bio-engineered/infected/ fleshy individuals that were the scariest part of the game. There are knife fights, boat fights, monk fights, monster fights, sniper fights. So much glorious fighting! I was totally unprepared for the emotional investment for this game -as any sort of relationship based on love would have. It was a long game, extremely stressful, pretty to look at and consistently entertaining. It was paced wonderfully, I was never bored, or stuck and was up too late many a night because I couldn’t shut off the game. I was actually sad when I finished it, but then I found out there are 2 extra games that were unlocked after the game end. So much to love! If you are still unconvinced, let me just say two words. JET SKI. Just like a summer blockbuster movie! Filed under: GameCube and Review and sparklepony Comments: None |

If I remember correctly, Wario Ware Twisted was supposed to come out a few months ago, but was pushed back (rumors say the later release date was to give Wario Ware Touched a chance at survival.) So, I picked up Touched, completed it in a week (short game!) and patiently waited for twisted. And I’m glad it’s here. All the things I remember saying about the original Wario Ware (things like “that was funny!” or “adorable!” or “I am truly enjoying myself and this gaming experience!”) I have been also saying about Twisted. The “Gyro Sensor” goes beyond just being a novelty and is indeed a very fun and different way to play. The mini games all keep the same light-heartedness that makes the series a winner, although I’m finding the game to be much more challenging than Touched was. I’ll continue the review as I progress in the game. As of right now, Twisted is highly recommended. UPDATE: Here’s the catch: there are actually mini-games in Twisted that I DON’T KNOW HOW TO PLAY. I just don’t get them. Frustrating? You bet. Deal-breaker? Not at all. Go check it out. Filed under: ClackyJ and GBA and Review Comments: 4 Comments |

The trip from Minnesota to San Jose, with a layover in 104 degree Phoenix, was going to be a long one. Like a smart lad, I had loaded up my PSP with episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. And I also had purchased the only games out for the system that interested me. These games are Lumines, Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix, and Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee. I have already played the hell out of Lumines and wasn’t in a Tony Hawk mood, so my focus for this trip was on Hot Shots Golf. Loving Mario Golf for the GBA, I was quite excited to play Hot Shots. I don’t play golf in real life. I don’t watch it on TV. But yet, video game golf is fun and addictive. That being said, all golf games are the same. Play through competitions. Unlock courses. Jam down on this button to start your swing. Crunch on this one to put some top spin on it. If you know how to play one game, you know how to play them all. I am having a lot of fun with Hot Shots Golf, of course. Currently I’m on a mission to dress up my guy character as much like a girl as possible. He has long hair, and a pink top on. Now he just needs some girly accessories. The graphics are nice and cartoonish. I’m still thrilled to play good looking games on this wonderful wide screen. Oh, and after you win each mach? There is an inspirational video clip of a beach or clouds or hippos playing, with the words “Good Job” printed over it. You have to laugh. Laugh for me. We seem to find comfort in similarity. Golf games are similar to sequels that way. The newer ones look prettier, but are pretty much the same thing. The bottom line is, if you like golf games, Hot Shots doesn’t screw anything up.
