(Wario Ware Twisted!) Twisting in the Wind

WarioWare Twisted

If I remember correctly, Wario Ware Twisted was supposed to come out a few months ago, but was pushed back (rumors say the later release date was to give Wario Ware Touched a chance at survival.) So, I picked up Touched, completed it in a week (short game!) and patiently waited for twisted.

And I’m glad it’s here.

All the things I remember saying about the original Wario Ware (things like “that was funny!” or “adorable!” or “I am truly enjoying myself and this gaming experience!”) I have been also saying about Twisted. The “Gyro Sensor” goes beyond just being a novelty and is indeed a very fun and different way to play. The mini games all keep the same light-heartedness that makes the series a winner, although I’m finding the game to be much more challenging than Touched was.

I’ll continue the review as I progress in the game. As of right now, Twisted is highly recommended.

UPDATE:
I have completed the story mode of Wario Ware. Delightful? Of course. Still a highly recommended game.

Here’s the catch: there are actually mini-games in Twisted that I DON’T KNOW HOW TO PLAY. I just don’t get them. Frustrating? You bet. Deal-breaker? Not at all. Go check it out.

  1. WW: Twisted is good fun indeed. Touched was too short and too easy. Twisted on the other hand seems at least as long and even more challenging than the original.

The parts I have the hardest time with are the ones that require you to rotate something along a circle in the game, such as rotating a segment of fence to keep a pig in a circular pen, or rotating spiral stairs for a kitty to climb. I find that in these cases, my instinct for which direction to rotate the GBA is wrong.

This game takes its place alongside “Boktai” of weirdly-shaped GBA games with interesting gimmicks that are worth checking out. Enjoy the gimmicky cartridge while you can, folks; cartridges are on the way out.

  2. Isn’t there also a Yoshi GBA game that involves a gyrothingy?

  3. Kirby had a game with a sensor in it. Tumble or something like that.

  4. Twisted becomes harder after one 16 oz Bud and 4 Coronas. And jet lag.
