A bit of fantastic news for the portable gamers today.

THQ Inc. today announced an agreement with critically acclaimed development studio Team17 Software Ltd. to publish Worms on the PSP portable entertainment system and Nintendo DS.

A quick overview for those who have never played Worms before. Do you remember Scorched Earth? No? What the heck? Were you born in 1990 or something? Get out of my sight.

Worms is a turn based game much like Scorched Earth. You have a team of worms who take turns trying to murder other worms. This is done with machine guns, heat seeking missiles, sheep, and more. Sheep? Yeah, that’s not a typo.

It is a very simple, funny, and addictive game.

A quick note on myself. I love blowing up tiny creatures in games. Sims, Starcraft, Lemmings. Worms has blowing up tiny creatures in spades. Blowing up adorable little worms. Like blowing up ugly kittens. You know you’ve always wanted to do that.

Of course wireless multiplayer will be included, as playing against friends has always been the focus of the Worms empire. Single player is generally pointless.

There’s no time date on when these games will arrive, but I’ll keep my eyes wide open.
