Fine. So maybe the case is for watching movies in the privacy of my home… where I have my tv, dvd player, and surround sound? I don’t think so, PSP. I’ll watch that one on a screen 5 times your size. As far as I can tell, there’s only one reason I would use NYKO’s PSP case: when I’m with a few select friends, in an isolated area, with little else to do. In other words: when I’m camping. If NYKO were on the ball, that’s exactly how they would market this new case. They would paint the outside green (so we know it’s for outside use), put a warning on it that says “not for grilling” and treat it as the camper’s #1 portable entertainment center. I guess I need to write a letter… Filed under: ClackyJ and General and PSP Comments: None |

The trip from Minnesota to San Jose, with a layover in 104 degree Phoenix, was going to be a long one. Like a smart lad, I had loaded up my PSP with episodes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. And I also had purchased the only games out for the system that interested me. These games are Lumines, Tony Hawk Underground 2 Remix, and Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee. I have already played the hell out of Lumines and wasn’t in a Tony Hawk mood, so my focus for this trip was on Hot Shots Golf. Loving Mario Golf for the GBA, I was quite excited to play Hot Shots. I don’t play golf in real life. I don’t watch it on TV. But yet, video game golf is fun and addictive. That being said, all golf games are the same. Play through competitions. Unlock courses. Jam down on this button to start your swing. Crunch on this one to put some top spin on it. If you know how to play one game, you know how to play them all. I am having a lot of fun with Hot Shots Golf, of course. Currently I’m on a mission to dress up my guy character as much like a girl as possible. He has long hair, and a pink top on. Now he just needs some girly accessories. The graphics are nice and cartoonish. I’m still thrilled to play good looking games on this wonderful wide screen. Oh, and after you win each mach? There is an inspirational video clip of a beach or clouds or hippos playing, with the words “Good Job” printed over it. You have to laugh. Laugh for me. We seem to find comfort in similarity. Golf games are similar to sequels that way. The newer ones look prettier, but are pretty much the same thing. The bottom line is, if you like golf games, Hot Shots doesn’t screw anything up. Just found out about Lemmings for PSP. It’s undated as yet, but I’m pretty excited. I love those little idiots, and it’s been years (nearly a decade?) since I’ve played the game. Strange to think that DMA design, who are the folks behind Lemmings, also started a little franchise called Grand Theft Auto.
In other news, I read a headline on Gamespot today: “PS3 to sell for under $500.” Geez, I hope so, for Sony’s sake as much as my own. I don’t know that I’ll be in any hurry to get a PS3 (or an XBox 360, for that matter), but I worry about Nintendo. They’re taking a risk by catering more to nostalgia than to the males-aged-15-to-24 megademographic. It’s a risk that I applaud, because I really want to download and play Super Metroid on it, but it’s still a dangerous move for third place (2nd place in Japan). Anyway, if the PS3 is not competitively priced, it can only help Nintendo. I think that’s one of the only reasons DS is afloat right now, is the price point being $100 less than the PSP.
