Being funny is so much easier when you’re expanding on a great insight/idea. In college I hope to have my own humor column, but I’m afraid I won’t be able to come up with original ideas often enough. How do humorists usually come up with their ideas?

Personal experience. Family, friends, childhood. Politics and social issues. What are your personal observations? Find your Funny Bone or your Muse?

Being funny means striking a chord with others using that bone to strum.

What characterizes a dry sense of humor? How does sarcastic humor work?

Obviously sarcastic humor uses sarcasm, but can someone provide me with examples of that? And what makes a sense of humor dry?

How can you regain sense of humor and ability to be outwardly warm/expressive after a trauma?

I suffer from post traumatic stress and social anxiety. What can I do to regain my sense of humor and feel comfortable expressing myself outwardly?

It feels like I haven’t laughed properly for years and I have difficulty making friends because I’m so shy, withdrawn and emotionally ’shut down’. I feel I can’t connect with people.

Time. The only cure is time. But remember that any day you can open your eyes is a good day. Take baby steps. Go to a park or a beach when no one is around. Enjoy the sensations of nature. If you can manage it, go get a massage. Ask the massuese not to talk and just relax and feel the massage as something meant to feel good. Always remember that the possibility of getting back to normal is there, so just have patience and persistance. Take care.

Women and men..How important is a sense of humor when choosing a mate?

I ask because I see so many people in this forum who seem to lack a sense of humor. They take everything literally and it seems to be an equal amount of men and women who lack a funny bone.

So, on a scale of 1-10, how important is a sense of humor to you when you choose a mate?

Why is it important or not important to you?

10. If a girl I dig can’t laugh at me or herself the relationship won’t last more than a week. Humour is not only my best medicine but it’s my only medicine. I can be with the hottest girl alive but if she takes me or herself too seriously, it’ll last about a week (maybe two weeks tops).
