Let’s see what Nintendo has in store for us today, shall we….

Well, true to form, let’s get the stats out of the way. Obviously, Reggie is pointing out how well that Nintendo is doing in the market….Let’s get on to some gaming info, darnit!

Heh, Reggie referenced soccer moms.

140 new DS games and 100 new Wii games, coming! But what are these games?

Another Nintendo commercial….based off of bad You-Tubes.

The Wii-Zapper? Hmm, looks interesting! So far, 10 games have a lineup of Wii-Zapper games. But when does it release?!

Oh, $19.99 for the zapper! That may be a must have.

Soul Caliber and a new WWE game. Meh, unless they fix the Wii-mote control schemes. I don’t want another Red Steel.

Ninja Gaiden with the stylus? Interest is picqued.

Mario and Sonic Olympics? Let’s just hope it’s not like Track & Field.

And what everyone is waiting for…….Super Smash Bro’s Brawl. Hecks YA! December 3rd!!! Wait, wasn’t that supposed to be out already? Oh well, at least it’s an official release date

Phantom Hourglass (DS). Me likes so far.

Metroid Prime (Wii). Looks hot! So does the game…see what I did there, there was a hottie playing the game. har har.

Wii online? Sounds like there may be some multi-player potential. Of course, they’ve been denying this for the past 6 months. Maybe they changed their minds? Looks so with Madden and Soccer coming out!

Ok, Guitar Hero, let’s see some action there. Stop talking and start showing some demos! Failure!

Mario Kart: with it’s own Wii-wheel. Wait, don’t they already have a steering wheel out already?

Yay, a cooking DS game. In Japan…..Why, oh why don’t these games come stateside?

Games are for everyone. Well, show us some games then! Why is Nintendo focusing on players and not the games? Shouldn’t this be a platform to show new technologies? I’m so confused.

Wait, Super Mario Galaxy? This isn’t out yet. Why are they playing it? Gar, I don’t want to see some family “test” playing games. I want demo’s and release dates, darnit!

Brain Age 2: August 20th. woot! Super Mario Galaxy: Nov 12th. This year. So much for being a release title…

Picross and MySims. I think I’ll pass…

Oooh, High School Musical! Think of that what you will.

Rayman 2. Now if only they’d show us some solid play…

Flash Focus, My Word Coach, and My Life Coach. More training games. But, once again, let’s see some of these stateside. I already have Flash Focus. Picked it up in Japan.
And the big release….Wii Fit. I’m fairly certain that after the novelty of this game wears off, it’ll go the way of the treadmill. Off to the corner to gather dust.

For a slate of over 150 games to be released, as Reggie put it, I’ve seen nothing new worth getting. Outside of the Wii-zapper, I think a lot was left out of this exhibition. Overall, disappointed with the lack of anything really new coming out.

I find the lack of actual demo’s also hindering this presentation. If they would have done without the 15 You-Tube video presentations and the test family play, they could have put out more info on everything else coming out. Now, the system is looking more and more like a novelty. Thank god I have a DS tho….c’mon Phantom Hourglass!

Things I Learned from the Nintendo E3 Conference
Posted on 07.11.07 by A 47 Danger @ 11:05 am

Nintendo may be run by vampires, as conference attendees must turn off the lights on their cell phones.

According to, “everyone is a gamer.” I think Jack Thompson just had an aneurysm.

There is a lot of talk about reaching the untapped market of people who don’t play games. Older gamers. Female players. Prairie dogs.

More numbers. We know you have a good product, Nintendo. Show us your software, not your percentages. I’m not buying your stock.

“Nintendo is not a fad. Nintendo is the future.” Nintendo is not a dragon. Nintendo is a ham sandwich.

Reggie is showing us the Wii Zapper. It is a template for the Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuck. Arcade shooters finally come to the home console! Again.

Oh Reggie, don’t say “maximize penetration.”

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games is, in fact, exactly what it sounds like. I think they’re both doping.

Smash Bros. Brawl will launch on December 3rd. There is some straight news for you.

Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass will be entirely touch on the DS. Color me interested!*

The Wii Remote looks to work fantastically with the first-person Metroid Prime 3. Not only will you aim with the remote, but you will activate options with gestures. Think Black & White, but not horribly disappointing in every way.

Check Mii Out will be a new channel where you can vote on your Wii Miis. America does love voting for things that aren’t presidents.

Nintendo claims to be serious about online play. Again. Mario Kart Wii is the proof in the pudding, apparently. You will be able to play Mario Kart Wii with the Wii Wheel. Or, as I will call it from now on, the Wiil.

Good, I needed another montage about how much people love Nintendo.

Saturo Iwata, Nintendo’s worldwide president, has taken the stage. Paradigm shift this. Cookbook on DS that.

Okay, okay. You want the Wii and DS to be for everybody! But what does that matter to me? I’m already a gamer. All of this means nothing to me aside finally getting my wife interested in something besides Viva Pinata.

I sure could go for another montage…hooray! They read my mind!

Brain Age 2 comes out August 20th. Super Mario Galaxy on November 12th.

High School Musical is coming out for the Wii and DS. So, you know, if you have brain damage, you’re good to go.

We’re in for a ton of different brain training games. Including My Life Coach. Hold on, no time to make a witty comment. There is another fan montage that needs watching.

WiiFit takes the tricking you into exercising of WiiSports and removes the facade of fun.

Shigeru Miyamoto came out to tell us we should be really interested in WiiFit. His sentiments are not matched by me or the crowd. Or the universe. The universe has no interest in this “big” announcement, Miyamoto.

The Wii Balanceboard controller is what makes WiiFit possible. That, and misplaced enthusiasm.

This wasn’t a very good conference. I am disappointed. Lots of telling me things I SHOULD be interested in but am NOT interested in.

Sorry, it wasn’t the end. There was one more lame montage. Now it’s over.

Things I Learned from the Microsoft E3 Presentation
Posted on 07.10.07 by A 47 Danger @ 10:48 pm

Peter Moore is tone deaf, and probably sings loudly in the car by himself.

Viva Pinata is being brought back in a terrible party game form.

Mass Effect comes out this November. That’s one of those months that ends in “ember.” The thirst one.

We’ve spent billions of dollars on our Xbox 360s. I wonder if that was before or after the Ring of Death repair refunds.

Haven’t been excited about any games I wasn’t aware of. Assassin’s Creed, Rock Band, Bioshock, and some smaller games.

SceneIt?, the board game, coming to Xbox Live? It comes with a new controller style. A controller with a big red button. You know, in case you can only play games by using your nose. It always knows.

Somehow, I have been tricked into watching a PowerPoint presentation.

Hey, it’s Reggie Bush! From the New Orleans Saints! That’s what the gamers want! The crowd is really impressed, as you can tell by my sarcasm.

The Xbox Live presentation is boring me. 7 million members. Oooh, and he mentioned Pac-Man: Championship Edition. Bad call, dude.

Oooh. Hexic 2 is coming. I think I’m the only person who played the first one. But, hooray for me.

OMG Golden Axe OMG! What’s more, Golden Axe is available tonight! Quit playing it on your Dreamcast or Wii and start playing it on XBLA!

Disney movies on Xbox Live? Right now? I’ll start ignoring those movies right away!

PGR4 will have motorbikes and weather effects. I will remember this as the moment all of my dreams finally came true!

Lost Odyssey doesn’t look bad. In fact, I find it hard to say bad things about it. Hold on, the dialogue is cheesy. There you go! Thought I was loosing my touch for a second.

Wait, there is a Games for Windows section? Viva Pinata and Gears of War are coming to Games for Windows. So for the two people out there who like playing Xbox 360 games much later and on PC, there you go.

Call of Duty 4 looks pretty good. Then again, it is another war shooter. A MODERN war shooter. From the distant future of today!

Hey, thanks for showing us the Grand Theft Auto 4 trailer again. We haven’t seen that a million times before.

Resident Evil 5? I didn’t know about that!

While Assassin’s Creed still looks great, it still looks the same as it did a year ago. But the AI looks great! In a group of enemies, only one will attack at a time! Brilliant!

There is a Halo themed console? Come on now. Haven’t we learned that this doesn’t work yet? I’m not going to sell my white console for a green console. At least the Halo 3 preview was neat. And that’s it. Go to sleep.

Dear Nintendo,

super_metroid.jpgI just sent this email to Nintendo via their web form:

Hello,

I just wanted to let you, as a company, know that I have 800 Wii Store points waiting for the release of Super Metroid on Virtual Console. I’m not asking for a release date — I know better than that — but I thought that you should know that there is money ready and set aside to be taken from me by Nintendo of America. You can even include it in your projected earnings if you want: $8 of nearly-pure profit. I wish I had that kind of financial security.

Sincerely,
Fred
Minneapolis, MN

That oughta do it. Seriously, though. They released Super Mario Bros 2 this morning. That’s cool and all — it’s a great game — but it’d be nice if they hit more of the classic games that haven’t yet been re-released on Game Boy Advance. ActRaiser was a great step a few weeks ago. But Zeldas 1, 2 and A Link to the Past, all the NES Super Mario games, and Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island are all available in portable form. Super Metroid has never been repackaged, and was just named the #10 game of all time by Edge Magazine. Where’s the love?

Incidentally, the #2 game on that list, Resident Evil 4, has just been re-released on the Wii. Some reviewers (Gamespot among them) are calling it the best version of the game. That’s pretty sweet. And the game’s cheap. So get it if you haven’t played it. If you can find it — I can’t. But I am looking for a new Wii game after having finished Twilight Princess on Saturday. The final boss battle was epic, and did a fantastic part of drawing on skills learned throughout the entire game, including, oddly enough, your cattle-herding skills. Awesome.

That’s all I got.

It’s a 2-fer!
Posted on 06.29.07 by skintari @ 11:31 am

Good morning, peeps! I got y’all a little special today.

That’s right, a 2-fer! As I’ve spent most of this week checking out my new gamefly games! I recently had Clubhouse Games and Hotel Dusk sent to me, and boy, have I been busy with them!

First up, Clubhouse Games.

boxart.jpg

While not an entirely in-depth game, this one does offer a lot of variety. There are several sections of games to check out and they are all broken down into subcategories. There are card games, board games, “pub” games (billiards, darts, bowling, etc), and a few random ones thrown in there. While you won’t find the depth of an all card DS game and the like, you will find that the ones that they do add are quite fun. There’s a few casino games (blackjack, 5 card draw), and a few head to head types (7’s, Old Maid). This makes for a bit of a fresh game experience as you don’t find just one that you like and stick to it. There is actually incentive to play through the different types.

About that incentive, it comes in a couple of different ways. You have the “free” play, which is playing all the unlocked games. Then there is the mission. The mission has you climbing a game ladder that goes for 5 stages. The good thing is that whether you win or lose, you always advance. The advancement plays as a stamp on whatever game you are on. 3 stamps allows you to move to the next game on the ladder. Your finishing place (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th) dictates how many stamps you receive. This is a good thing as a few of the games are frustratingly hard against the AI.

The multiplayer seems intriguing, however, I have yet to try it as my compadre has been more involved with Puzzle Quest!

My only negative is that the AI can be too tough on the “thought” games (chess, battleship). The other issue is that the “pub” games are almost impossible to play. Using the stylus for darts and bowling is completely useless.

My Rating: 4/5. With about 30 different short games, this is great if you’re waiting for you girlfriend/wife try on clothes and you’re stuck at the Gap with her.

Now, onto Hotel Dusk. This is a great game. Period. If you have any interest in a drama/suspensish “film noir” game, go get this. That’s about all I can say without giving away anything :)

My Rating: 5/5. Worth the investment and will keep you hooked for a long, long time!
